A number of terrestrial invertebrate species, such as large blue butterfly and Fisher’s estuarine moth are protected by law and are a consideration in the planning process. Invertebrate surveys can be conducted by our experienced invertebrate specialists to determine whether important invertebrate communities are present on a site, or as part of an ongoing programme of monitoring.
Our surveyors, who are licensed where necessary, use both typical methods such as beating, sweeping, hand searching and spot sweeping and specialist methods such as light trapping for moths and flight interception trapping for woodland species.
Our reports are designed to support planning applications, and detail the presence or absence of invertebrate populations. We assess the quality of specific species assemblages, using Pantheon where required, explaining the implications and focussing on realistic solutions for your project.
Where enhancement of retained habitat is recommended, or the design and implementation of replacement habitat is required, our specialist habitats contracting team can offer practical assistance.
