Water companies are responding to increasing legislative demands to meet and exceed environmental standards, particularly around water quality compliance. Our water team has considerable experience in the biological, hydrological and water quality monitoring methods which are required to monitor compliance under the Water Framework Directive. We are delivering monitoring programmes for water companies throughout the UK including Severn Trent, Welsh Water and Thames Water. We also have experience of undertaking hydrological studies to support water resource assessments and studies under the Natural Environment Programme.
The power sector is undergoing rapid change as we move away from conventional oil and gas supplies to renewable sources of energy. We understand the challenge this represents to clients in the planning and implementation of new schemes and the renewal of existing infrastructure. We have supported the power sector at all stages of the planning application process for projects in both the terrestrial and marine environment. For example, we were responsible for the delivery of baseline ecological survey programmes for the onshore cable routes at Navitus Bay, Hornsea 3 and Triton Knoll wind farms. At Abel Marine Energy Park on the Humber Estuary we developed the detailed design for a habitat compensation schemes to mitigate for impacts to habitats in the intertidal environment. We are routinely undertaking marine benthic analysis for monitoring programmes required to ensure compliance with national and international legislation.
The waste sector is subject to a range of legal compliance and planning control measures, from Environmental Impact Assessment for new facilities to environmental permitting for existing sites. Our team have considerable experience in advising clients on the environmental requirements of new waste sites, including screening and scoping for EIA. We can design and implement water quality testing programmes for existing waste sites, including the interpretation of laboratory data from chemical testing.
