BSc Hons degree in arboriculture.
How did you get into ecology/environmental work?
I was originally a landscape gardener and horticulturist, then decided to study arboriculture after HND in Horticulture. I later did a degree at Myerscough and became an arb surveyor and consultant upon graduating.

How many years of relevant industry experience do you have?
10 years in arb consultancy specifically
Can you describe your position at Thomson EC? What does a typical day like?
- Prioritising projects and workloads, assigning work to colleagues and resourcing for upcoming surveys and site visits.
- Completing a wide range of Arboricultural reports and drawings for different client purposes.
- Attending design team meetings to give professional advise on developing near trees.
Are there any relevant subject matters you are passionate about?
I recognise the importance of high-quality, accurate tree surveys and the value of being involved as early as possible within the design stages. This helps get projects moving as quickly and efficiently as possible in the right direction whilst avoiding potential pitfalls.
What is your proudest achievement/career highlight at Thomson?
Surveying over 3000 ash trees for East Dunbartonshire council as part of ash dieback management and prescribing prioritised work recommendations.
Do you have any hobbies and interests outside work?
Foraging mushrooms, writing music and playing in a band.
