Thomson Environmental Secures £2.8m in Environmental and Infrastructure Work

We’re pleased to announce over £2.8 million in project wins, spanning long-term environment monitoring and nationally significant infrastructure schemes.

Government and local authority environmental projects

Among our most significant awards is £1.45 million for landscape-scale monitoring of habitats to detect land use change. This project forms part of a long-term environmental data programme and will be delivered over the next 12 months.

Other project wins include over £200k for monitoring:

  • Coastal habitat changes as part of a long-term monitoring program
  • Invasive species monitoring for pest species surveillance and resilience

These contracts are part of broader programmes to collect ecological and landscape data that inform environmental policy and resource management at a national level. Many of these monitoring projects span 5 to 10 years, providing repeat revenue and allowing for long-term planning and scientific continuity.

National infrastructure projects

In addition to monitoring programmes, we have also secured multiple large-scale infrastructure survey contracts, including:

  • £600k ecological survey for a major road upgrade in the north of England
  • £200k bat surveys for an energy infrastructure project
  • £140k ecological support for a coastal realignment scheme
  • £80k protected species surveys for an energy distribution project in the north of England
  • £60k ecological input for an energy distribution project in London

These large, linear infrastructure projects span energy transmission, road improvements, and flood defence, all sectors with complex survey and mitigation requirements.

Several of these recent wins sit within the energy distribution sector, a space that continues to expand as the UK accelerates its clean energy transition. Ecological surveys play an important role in enabling planning and consenting for transmission upgrades and new grid connections.

Our work on the projects directly supports the modernisation of the UK’s electricity grid, ensuring new renewable energy sources can be connected efficiently and responsibly.

New hires to support growth

To support delivery, we have expanded our team and continue to recruit ecologists and project managers at multiple levels. The company’s recent hires include a project manager in the ecology team to oversee large mitigation projects and a Principal Ecologist in the Birmingham team as part of expanding commitments on major projects.

If you’re interested in joining the team at what’s an exciting time for the organisation, search our current vacancies.
