Wind pump installation

As part of larger habitat creation works and enhancements of a nature reserve in East London, we have worked with a manufacturer of wind pumps to supply and install a 5m tall Poldaw wind pump on site.

The pump channels water from a nearby dyke into a network of recently created and existing ditches. We created the new ditches, and enhanced existing ones to provide habitat for water voles.

Before the pump could be erected, we undertook ground works which involved piling, the construction of a 4m deep capped underground chamber, and the installation of inlet and outlet pipe structures, channelling water from the dyke into the water vole ditches and existing wader scrape area.

The wind pump that we have installed does not emit greenhouse gases which means that energy is produced without harming the environment or costing the earth!
