Thomson Ecology is pleased to announce that it has won a contract from the Environment Agency to continue managing the fish component of the NE Atlantic
Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control scheme (NMBAQC).
Lead fish biologist, Sarah Hussey, who is based at Thomson Unicomarine, the company’s aquatic laboratory in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, said: .
“It is fantastic that Thomson Unicomarine will continue to deliver this service, which is aimed at improving the quality of biological data on a European
scale. We champion the scheme on behalf of the NMBAQC committee, encouraging discussions on fish identification and setting a benchmark for taxonomy.”.
“In light of evolving legislation, including the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) reform and Water Framework Directive (WFD), accurate and consistent assessment
of fish species is vital. Those laboratories that participate in the Scheme are able to illustrate their commitment to quality assurance, and help
to improve the quality of biological data across the industry.”.
