Flood defence works, Congresbury Yeo

We have been working with our client, Team Van Oord, on a flood defence scheme in Somerset.

The existing tidal defence embankment around Congresbury Yeo is being raised and widened, in order to provide protection for up to a 1 in 100 year flood event.

We have been undertaking a variety of works, including mechanical clearance of almost 4km of hedgerow, cleaning out internal drainage ditches, installing approximately 900m of temporary great crested newt (GCN) fence, and the closure of an outlier badger sett.

The works were undertaken within a SSSI and Local Nature Reserve. As a result, we were required to use sensitive working methods to minimise disturbance to the resident wintering bird population.
