Reptile bund and hibernacula construction

In East London, we have carried out habitat enhancement works to turn an area into a receptor site for reptiles displaced from a nearby development site.

We had previously installed fencing on the client’s development site to help in trapping the reptiles.

We created a bund by scraping off the top layer of soil using an excavator, and formed the bund using the locally sourced spoil. The bund is 1m wide, 2m high and 20m in length, and is Southerly facing, positioned as such so that it catches as much sun as possible to make the perfect habitat for basking reptiles.

We have also created log piles and brick hibernacula, and gravel basking areas on the same site.
